Uneven Skin Tone? Use Colour Correcting Makeup
I'm always so fascinated at how well this works to achieve a balanced, radiant-looking skin.
Have you ever tried colour-correcting makeup? It’s an easy technique that uses the power of colour theory to neutralise imperfections, creating a radiant base before applying your foundation. The colour principle behind it is that opposite shades in the colour wheel cancel each other out:
So here’s a quick guide on how to colour-correct like a pro:
For Redness: Use green – it balances out redness to reduce the appearance of blemishes, sunburn, rosacea and blotchiness. If you have fairer skin, chances are you probably struggle with redness on occasion! Apply it on the cheeks, forehead and chin.
For Dark Circles: Who doesn’t have them?! Use orange or peachy hues – they work wonders on dark under-eye areas by instantly neutralising the dark shade and brightening up your look.
For Dullness: Use purple – this colour counteracts any yellowness in your skin, which can cause a dull, sallow look. I tend to apply it on the side of my cheeks and forehead to bring some vibrancy and life to those areas before applying my foundation.
How to Apply
Start with a clean, moisturized face. Then, apply a small amount (to avoid a cakey finish) of the chosen corrector using your fingers or a brush. I prefer working the products with my fingers as I feel they blend into my skin better.
Once the corrections are in, I layer my foundation on top by lightly tapping it onto my skin with a brush and being careful not to drag it around so the correctors stay in place.
Finish with a touch of translucent powder to lock everything in and you’re done!
Ooh the orange is an interesting one. Which products/brands do you like? They can be a bit hit and miss and cakey like you say.
